Most Loved Thai Food Recipes

Thai food is native to the country of Thailand and has a rich history. Thai cuisine combined Eatern and Western styles of cooking for a long time and it shows up in the recipes. Most Thai recipes will have neat blends of sour, sweet, salty and spicy flavors and this is what makes the cuisine well loved around the world. Traditional Thai food does not include huge quantities of meat thanks to the nation’s Buddhist influence. However, some recipes might have small strips of meat. Fish and vegetables are also main staples in Thai cuisine. Prior to Chinese migration to Thailand, families mostly stewed, grilled or baked their foods. But after this migration, there was an increase in stir-frying of meals and at times deep-frying. If you have never been to an authentic Thai restaurant or if you want to make this food at home, here are some well-loved authentic Thai recipes.

Krathong Thong

These fried appetizers are common in Thailand and here is how they are made. The ingredients are a half cup each of rice flour and all-purpose flour, four tablespoons of corn flour, a beaten egg, a teaspoon of sugar, a tablespoon of vegetable oil, half teaspoon of salt, two cups of minced pork, a halp cup of shredded carrot, one cup of mashed sweet potatoes, a cup of diced onions and three teaspoons of curry powder. You will also need a pastry mold.

Heat your skillet with vegetable oil and then stir in the onions. After ten minutes, you would add in the minced pork, sweet potatoes, carrots, curry powder and sugar. Stir fry for five to ten minutes then set aside. To make the pastry cups, blend the flours, egg, vegetable oil and salt in a bowl. Put one pastry mold at a time into a pot of hot oil and then dip the molds in the pastry mixture on at a time. Once this is done you place the molds one at a time into the oil before removing. Once you fry the pastry cups, put the meat filling in each of them and serve.

Lad Na

This is a simple noodle dish in fish sauce and other condiments. The ingredients for this recipe are a 1-lb. bag of wide rice noodles, two tablespoons of vegetable oil, two teaspoons of black soy sauce, half pound of chopped boneless chicken breasts, four teaspoons of cornstarch, three cups of chicken broth, two tablespoons of crushed garlic, a tablespoon of yellow bean paste, two tablespoons of fish sauce, a tablespoon of oyster sauce, two cups of diced broccoli and ground pepper. In a medium bowl combine the noodles in oil and the black soy sauce. In another bowl combine the chicken pieces in the cornstarch and ground pepper. Then in a new bowl combine the chicken stock and additional cornstarch. The next step would be to heat oil in a large skillet. Place the chicken mixture in the skillet then add the yellow soybean paste. Then add additional chicken stock to the skillet along with the fish sauce and oyster sauce. Add sugar and broccoli pieces and cook until slightly tender. After this you would pour the entire mixture over the noodles and serve.

Gaeng Massaman


To make this recipe you will need four tablespoons of curry paste, four tablespoons of oil, a half pound of seasoned boneless chicken pieces, a cup each of coconut cream and coconut milk, a cup of diced potatoes, two cups of onions, one fourth cup of roasted peanuts, two teaspoons of fish sauce and two teaspoons of tamarind paste. Start by cutting the potatoes and set aside. In a skillet you want to heat some oil and then add the curry paste and cook for four minutes, constantly stirring. From there you would add the chicken pieces and cook for three minutes. Then pour in the coconut cream and milk then stir. Add the potatoes, peanuts and onions. Add the tamarind paste, stir one last time and serve with rice.

Som Tum

This is a green papaya salad that is widely eaten throughout Thailand. The ingredients are three crushed cloves of garlic, a tablespoon of chopped peanuts, three chopped serrano chiles, a half teaspoon of sugar, three tablespoons of lime juice, two tablespoons of fish sauce, two tomatoes, a half pound of green beans cut and trimmed, and a large peeled and diced green papaya. In a blender combine the garlic, salt, chiles, sugar and shrimp. Add this mixture to a bowl along with lime juice and the fish sauce. Then add the papaya pieces to the bowl then toss in the peanuts and serve.
